In my photography class we discuss the artistic movement known as Modernism. The early modernists were heavily influenced by indigenous and colonized cultures and in their attempts to appreciate these cultures they appropriated the art of those people. In my opinion this resulted in a new form of colonization where ideas, styles, and cultures were stolen and the original people that created them were erased from the annals of history.
