Description:

“Hold Fast To Dreams” is a poem by Langston Hughes about the importance of Dreams in our waking lives. I have titled this triptych after the great poets idea, for I have found my dreams to be as important as my reality. Panel 2 depicts the story “John vs. Abiyoyo” is about two Black legends fighting at the end and beginning of the world. It is a commentary on how from creation comes destruction and Vice versa, the struggle creates a dream that gives birth to life. The triptych depicts a large John Henry who’s arms and hammers are the bands holding together our cosmos. Panels 2 hosts the fight between John and the monster Abiyoyo. John is a collage of the man of steel, the face of a Benin bronze and the crown of a Pullman Porter.
